Elizabeth Sybil Charlesworth
Composer for Musical Theatre
Elizabeth is a multi award-winning composer from Nottingham, and is the recipient of both British Youth Music Theatre’s inaugural Triptych Programme, an international competition for female composers, and their 2019 New Music Theatre Award. Her latest production with writer Rachel Bellman THE DICKENS GIRLS was performed at The New Wolsey Theatre Ipswich in August 2019 and is currently in development.
Her musical A LIE was performed at the Mac in Belfast and the Lyric Hammersmith and she was commissioned to compose the music for THE MIDNIGHT FLOWER PRESS, which was performed at the Barbican Theatre, Plymouth in 2015. In 2017 she collaborated with Nikki Racklin on a third commission for BYMT, FIRST LADIES. The two are now developing a new musical, HALF BROKEN THINGS. In 2012 she was commissioned to write a 70 minute continuous piece for choir and orchestra to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Nottingham Royal Concert Hall.
Elizabeth has also received commissions from Nottingham Theatre Royal, Penguin Books, Lakeside Arts Centre, Nottingham Music Hub and the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra. Her compositions have been performed in London, Belfast, Plymouth, Birmingham, Nottingham and at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. She was a member of the Book, Music and Lyrics collective from 2013 - 2016.
